(Edgefield, South Carolina, b. circa 1800, d. after 1873) attributed to Dave Drake, made at Lewis Miles Stony Bluff Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1860, light brown alkaline glaze, greenish glaze runs from shoulder down around belly of jar and in interior, two possible finger print marks at base edge, slightly tilted ovoid form, incised "+" mark and three punctates at tooled line on shoulder, arched lug handles at sides, collared neck, tooled rim, lid shelf in interior of jar, scarce small likely three gallon size, 12 in. tall, 36-1/2 in. circumference

Condition

glaze voids and anomalies as made, surface wear and abrasions consistent with age and use, 1-1/4 in., 1-1/2 in., and 1-3/4 in. exterior rim chips with associated glaze frit on top of rim, 3/4 in. and miniscule interior rim chips, 2-1/4 in. rim chip to one handle, 1/2 in. and 3/4 in. rim chips to other handle, several other scattered surface chips at shoulder and handle, other minor scattered chips and wear at belly of jar, base edge wear and minor chips
