serial number 12317 stamped to four areas under frame, circa 1863, .36 caliber percussion revolver, cylinder engraved with The Naval Battle of Campeche, engraved "ENGAGED..." date worn off, cylinder also stamped "COLTS PATENT No. 2317", frame stamped "COLTS PATENT", 7-1/2 in. barrel engraved "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA", brass trigger guard stamped "36 CAL" and "8" on side, three screw frame, overall length 13 in. - Provenance: From the Collection of Ashley Halsey, Jr., Alexandria and Spotsylvania, Virginia
