serial number 73376 stamped in four places under frame, circa 1857, .36 caliber percussion revolver, cylinder engraved with The Naval battle of Campeche, also engraved "ENGAGED 16, May...", "COLT PATENT No. 73376" and "S", frame below cylinder stamped "COLTS PATENT U.S.", 7-1/2 in. octagonal barrel engraved "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY" and backwards "N", brass trigger guard stamped "M", "S", and "K" in various locations, three screw frame, brass bead sight, faint cartouche on left side of grip, overall length 13 in. - Provenance: From the Collection of Ashley Halsey, Jr., Alexandria and Spotsylvania, Virginia

patina and wear consistent with age and use, scratches to exterior surfaces,ÿareas of oxidation, minor rust in bores and cylinder, surface pitting, several dents down left side of barrel, dings to wooden handle, appears to function mechanically
