mahogany cabinet with brass fittings, hinged lid and front drawer, top brass plate reads "Willis" in script; containing approximately 25 glass bottles of varying sizes, many found complete with stoppers, the majority having Charleston area retail labels; powder compounds in envelopes; a white marble mortar; with a copy of The Planter's Guide and Family Book of Medicine by J. Hume Simons, M.D., Charleston: J.B. Nixon, 1848, second edition; wooden cabinet 9-1/2 x 17-1/4 x 9-1/4 in.

Note: This box was recovered from a former plantation located south of Charleston. Also, the front drawer is locked and no key is present. 

Condition

typical rub to surfaces of cabinet; some chipping to glass bottle extremities and to rim of mortar; book appears complete but quite distressed, water damage, foxing, missing spine, and fully detached front board 

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
