American, 1857, round with bead border, three scroll feet, engraved floor, marks for marker Cann & Dunn (New York City, working 1855-1857) and retailer Hayden & Whilden (Charleston, South Carolina, working 1855-1863), inscribed "To/C P. Aimar/From/V. F. E. Co./July 3, 1857", 6.7 oz. T., 6-3/8 in., light scratches. Notes: Charles Pons Aimar (1826–1905, Charleston, SC) was the principal of G. W. Aimar and Company, a very successful pharmaceutical firm at the corner of Vanderhorst and King Streets for many years. He was an influential and prosperous resident of Charleston.
Aimar was a member of Charleston’s volunteer Vigilant Fire Company, serving in various capacities over the years from their location at 46 State Street. Vigilant moved to number 33 State Street in 1849 and ceased operations in 1882 when the city of Charleston took over their responsibilities. Both buildings still stand.. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser’s risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges.
