(possibly Massachusetts, 19th century) Portrait of Samuel Bradford, 9th generation descendent of William Bradford, Governor of Plymouth, Massachusetts, unsigned, oil on canvas, 30-1/4 x 25 in.; modern gilt wood frame,. Condition: lined with paste and restretched on new stretcher, crackle, retouch, grime, some retouch, abrasion at edges; frame resurfaced. Notes: A notable portrait painter in Boston was Chester Harding (1792-1866). This portrait shares some similarities to his work.
