(possibly Massachusetts, 18th century) Portrait of Susan Farwell Brown (1702/3-1778), wife of Deacon Benjamin Brown (1702-1768) of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, by family tradition, unsigned, oil on canvas, 29-1/2 x 24-3/4 in.; modern painted wood frame,. Condition: lined with paste and linen and restretched on new stretcher, craquelure, flaking, yellowed varnish, stretcher marks, retouch; frame with abrasions. Notes: The treatment of the jewels in the hair of this sitter bears resemblance to those in the potrait of [Abigail Chesebrough] by Joseph Blackburn, active in Massachusetts 1754-1763.
