circa 1837-1840, attributed to Duncan Phyfe operating as D. Phyfe & Son, New York, sloped crest rail with scrolled terminal decorated with circular medallion, scrolled arm, highly figured blocked seat rail, club feet with inset casters, 34-1/2 x 68 x 24 in.

Provenance: Collection of Beverly and Richard Kelly of Garrison, New York

Note: The decorative elements of this recamier relate closely to several documented works by Duncan Phyfe, operating then under the name D. Phyfe & Son, that were designed for Millford in Pine Woods, South Carolina. The shape and proportions of the "Grecian" scrolls, circular medallions, and distinctive club feet are a close match to a Grecian bedstead from Millford illustrated in Duncan Phyfe: Master Cabinetmaker in New York by Peter Kenny et. al (pl. 55, pg. 249), in addition to multiple other pieces from Millford sharing the same motifs.
