Desk and Bookcase
New York, late 18th century, pine and gum(?) secondary, upper case with pitched pediment over blind-fretwork frieze above two paneled doors with boldly figured bookmatched mahogany panels, two candle slides, adjustable shelved interior set with five drawers, paneled back, lower case with fitted desk interior and four long drawers set on ball-and-claw feet, drawers set with original brass batwing pulls, 94-3/4 x 48-1/2 x 25 in., opens to 39 in. very good condition overall, original feet and most blocking (one knee return replaced), bed molding replaced, small strip patch at hinges (hinges with later screws), one interior doorknob missing, small element of cornice molding replaced, small strip patch to one upper door (correcting shrinkage), minor warping to upper doors, chip in one top side molding, scattered surface wear, abrasions and minor repairs consistent with age and use.
