Veteran of the Napoleonic War, signed on seat edge "Zoe De Laderiere 1838", 24 x 19-7/8 in.; original gilt wood frame, 29-1/4 x 25-1/8 in.

The frame label verso "P. SOUTY fils Place du Louvre No 18 Colannade LaGrande Doreur Du Ministere De L'interieur Et De LaVille De Paris."  is that of Pierre Souty who worked with many of the greatest artists in Paris. He became framer for Ministry of the Interior and supplier for the Salons.
The painting depicts a wounded soldier in the uniform of the 7th Regiment (circa 1804-1815) and wearing a medal for the Order of the Legion of Honour.

lined with paste and linen, crackle, yellowed varnish, some cupping, retouch; frame with losses and abrasions
