Covered Box, Cosmetics Box [Yabu Meizan] (Japanese, 1853-1934), Satsuma box, [Meiji] Period, cover with figures seated at desks and producing scrolls, some at play, gilt border, hand-painted gilt flowers, finely enameled and gilt interior depicting two birds on a branch, exterior with birds and branches on sharkskin ground, bracket feet with fan corners, base stamped with mark of the artist and paper note in Japanese, 2-1/4 x 5-1/8 x 3-1/2 in., with original trade card for [Yabu Meizan] "Decorator of the finest Satsuma porcelain", with photograph of ware verso; with a finely decorated circular Satsuma cosmetics box, cover depicting an interior scene with a man and four seated women, interior of box depicting two kneeling figures, exterior with gilt fan and stylized floral devices, signed on base, late 19th/early 20th century, 3/4 x 1-3/4 in., both in good condition.
