Winfield Scott, US Army general (1786- 1866), dated July 9th, 1821, written to T. M. Randolph, (1768- 1828), the 21st Governor of Virginia, 1819-1822, regarding a solid gold sword made by Fletcher and Gardiner of Philadelphia: "I have seen several of their make… executed with superior taste and workmanship", 10 x 15-3/4 in., good, foxed, small amounts of loss.
