(New Jersey/New York/Montana/Germany, 1878-1938) Quit Your Kidding, 1910, signed lower left "W.H.D. Koerner./1910", oil on canvas, 36 x 25 in.; modern gilt wood frame,. Condition: lined and restretched on new stretcher, retouch at areas of repair. Notes: In 1907, Howard Pyle, accepted William Koerner as a student. For four years he worked in Pyle's Wilmington, Delaware studio and studied and painted beside other ‘illuminates of illustration’ such as N.C. Wyeth and Harvey Dunn. For the next twenty years, Koerner was a much sought after illustrator for magazines such as Harper's, Collier's, McCall's, Redbook, Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal, and Saturday Evening Post. It is possible this is an illustration for one of these publications.
