Provenance: Provenance according to the consignor: William Edward West was a friend of the family (Judge Fielding Lewis Turner and Caroline Augusta Turner). He painted several family portraits in Natchez, Mississippi. Later he returned to Natchez and retired close by. The consignor's family was from Lexington, Kentucky, spent time in Mississippi when it was becoming a US territory, then returned to Kentucky.
