(New York, born 1933)
Untitled, abstract landscapes, signed lower right "Clutz", gouache or tempera on paper, 12-1/2 x 16-5/8 in,; matching gilt wood frames,. Notes: In the foreward of the 1962 David Herbert Gallery exhibition catalog, William Gerdts comments, " there is a wonderful feeling for abstract shapes themselves. These function because of their intensity and their sense of vitality; they suggest the forms of Arthur Dove, but with the sense of structure and the monumentality of Cezanne". Clutz was instrumental in reviving abstract figuration. While Gerdts speaks to his figurative work, these landscapes illustrate his use of form and color. Clutz was asked to join the National Academy and is rare to find at auction. This lot is accompanied by an exhibition catalog, David Herbert Gallery,
