English, early 19th century, stepped cannon form 7 in. barrel, rifled bore, etched hammer with knurling, "W HAWKES" and "OXFORD" inscribed lock plate, trigger guard with etched Tudor rose, silverplate embossed and detailed pugs face butt cap with scallop shell and acanthus leaf finial, silverplate escutcheon thumbrest with etched bird, burl walnut stock, 11-3/4 in; Provenance: Private New England Collection possibly a conversion; heavy wear to stock loss of wood at side plate and barrel, one othe large nick, repairs chips and losses to wood near lock plate, pitting scratches and wear barrel and furniture, tarnish to silverplate, trigger mechanism seems to be working properly
