Walnut Chest of Drawers attributed to Washington County, 1800-1810, with dovetailed drawers, poplar secondary, with fish inlay with carefully delineated scales and other features, trailing vine floral inlay with stylized urn at base, some inlay with polychroming, flanked by chamfered corners, ogee bracket feet, 38 x 44 x 18-1/2 in.. Condition: replaced feet and brasses, typical scattered surface wear, stains, abrasions and finish losses, with some minor losses to moldings, deep abrasion at one drawer front. Notes: Illustrated in "Fans, Fish, and Tassels: Idiosyncratic Inlaid Furniture of Northeastern Tennessee", by Anne S. McPherson. Examples from this distinctive group are in the collections of the Speed Museum, the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, and Winterthur Museum.
