attributed to Henry Hill of Marlborough, 1760-1770, with finely figured single board serpentine top over four graduated serpentine drawers, set with heavy gilt bronze pulls, finely constructed, mahogany drawer linings, matching gilt bronze carrying handles, highly figured bookmatched veneers, of gentle bombe form, lower drawer with deeply shaped apron, paneled back, 32 x 42 x 23-3/4 in. - Provenance: Estate of Robert K. Johnson, Aiken, South Carolina

Condition

survives in a fine state of preservation, possibly original gilt bronze hardware, original feet with cracks and repairs at foot facings, minor repairs and scratches to top, scattered checking and veneer flaws to drawer facings, top drawer likely originally fitted with dividers or other fittings, now removed (two patches in drawer bottom and scars from two central dividers with associated strip patch at back of drawer), groove inside drawer sides suggests it once had a sliding lid, some very small patches at escutcheons (see detailed photos)
