Italian, 18th century, elaborately carved frame with pierced skirt and carved legs, polychromed and gilt surface, modern green velvet upholstery, 41-1/2 x 27 x 22 in.

Provenance: These furniture objects are being offered by direct descendants of prominent New York families from the American Gilded Age. Charles and Gustavia Senff, of New York City and Whitestone, NY, were involved in the sugar refining business and collected fine furnishings and artwork. The Senff collection of fine art was sold in 1928, and included works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Corot, Franz Hols, Velazquez, Clays and Hobbema. The Senffs gifted part of this furniture group to Warren and Catherine Havemeyer Harriot, who then expanded the collection after a trip to Venice on The Grand Tour.

Condition

some minor pest damage, probable repair at one rear foot, period frame resurfaced and with scattered losses to paint and gilding overall, appears to have good integrity, but other restorations could be obscured by later surface, not examined under upholstery
