New York or possibly Scottish, late 18th century, poplar secondary wood throughout, primary wood is elm (confirmed by microanalysis, accompanied by a copy of the report), elaborately carved and fitted desk interior, inset quarter columns, boldly formed claw and ball feet, several branded marks "TIH", 44-3/4 x 47 x 22-1/4 in.
