After immigrating to the United States from China in his childhood and graduating from the Otis Art Institute, he went on to become a set designer and storyboard artist for Disney and Warner Brothers, serving as the lead production illustrator on Disney's 1942 film Bambi. He also worked as a greeting card illustrator and an avid kite designer and maker.
