American, 19th century, round 2-1/2 in. barrel, "Colt's P.T. F.A. Mfg, Hartford CT U.S.A.", marked ".22 cal", serial number "12225" on butt, and "9544" under gun barrel, wood grips; Root model side hammer, octagonal 3-1/2 in. barrel, .31 caliber, loading lever, raised sight, backstraps with wood grips, top of barrel stamped, "Colt's P.T. 1855/Address Col. Colt Hartford. U.S.A", serial number under barrel and on buttstrap "5428"
