small oval platter, circa 1795, with the arms of Erskine of Cardross impaling Elphinstone with motto "FORTITUDINE" in puce banner, multiple blue enamel and gilt borders, 12 in.; with large rectangular form with cut corners, pseudo-armorial shield and garland with monogram "JAB", underglaze blue cell-diaper borders, 17-1/2 in.,. Notes: This service was made for David Erskine (1772-1847) and the Hon. Keith Elphinstone. Cardross accompanied the 11th Lord Elphinstone as his [aide-de-camp] to Bombay and married his daughter.
