probably late Qing dynasty, possibly Imperial, two rondels, each with a flying crane with floral cornerwork, couched gold tone metallic thread and fine wool thread on felted wool ground, 53-1/4 x 16-3/4 in. (sight), later black frame, small hole upper right, scattered pest damage left border, light fading; confrontational dragon writhing around flaming pearl of immortality, three sides bordered with flowers and gourds, waves at bottom, couched gold tone metallic accents and fine wool thread on felted wool ground, 29 x 25 in. Note: Herbert J. Diekman, Captain in the US Army, served in the 2000 man contribution to the 8-Nation coalition forces in China during the Boxer Rebellion in 1899. By family tradition Diekman acquired the panels from Imperial Palace in Peking and brought them to display in his Brooklyn, New York home.
