comprising: lidded barrel form box depicting mythical animals in a sea, stylized wave border, apocryphal six character Da Ming Xuande Nian Zhi mark to base 3-3/4 in.; vase with applied white five claw dragon chasing a flaming pearl in stylized sea, mark to base 10 in.

Note: One of the most iconic depictions in dragon mythology is that of the dragon holding a pearl. Originating from Chinese mythology, the actual meaning of the pearl is a topic of great debate among dragon lovers. In early Chinese mythology stories, dragons controlled water. The moon was symbolic of water, and therefore an desired object for a dragon.
