Carved Geese (born 1940, Birdtown, Qualla Boundary, Swain County, North Carolina) full figure preening geese or ducks, one mahogany, one black walnut, both signed on base, 14-3/4 x 4 x 3-3/4 in., very minor scuffs and abrasions. Notes: Virgil Ledford was a student of Amanda Crowe. His works are in many museums and private collections. In 1965, Ledford was the recipient of a North Carolina Heritage Award, the state's highest honor given for traditional arts.. Provenance: Private Collection, Franklin, North Carolina
