Vendome Column Continental, 19th/20th century, both are bronze, one is polished, both mounted to stone plinths, 10-1/2 in.,. Condition: a few tiny chips to the plinths, otherwise good condition. Notes: Patterned after Trajan's Column in Rome, the original Vendôme Column at the center of the Place Vendome, Paris, was erected by Napoleon I to commemorate the battle of Austerlitz (1805). It was torn down on 16 May 1871, by decree of the Paris Commune, but subsequently re-erected and remains a prominent feature on the square today.
