Beginning the day with Photography masterworks by William Klein, Horst P. Horst, Alfred Eisenstadt, Edward Weston, Carrie Mae Weems, Walker Evans, Berenice Abbott, Edward Weston and many others. Following are more than 60 lots of Native American pottery, baskets, weavings, carvings and jewelry, headlined by an important Naskapi doll with painted coat, a rare Chinookan bark shredder, a pair of Huron moose hoof needlecases, blackware by Maria Martinez, and a room sized Navajo weaving. Concluding the day are 115 lots of furniture, silver, porcelain, rugs and more.

Slaughter Pen, Foot of Round Top, Gettysburg, dated July, 1863, published in Alexander Gardner’s Photographic Sketch Book of the War, plate no. 44, albumen print on original mount with original type in lower margin, including Gardner's Washington, D.C. imprint, sheet 12-1/2 x 12-3/8 in., image 7 x 8-7/8 in., matted not framed, 14 x 17 in.

Note: The Sketch Book of War, published after the war in 1866, contains ten photographic plates of Gettysburg, eight of which are by O'Sullivan. Image no. 36 from this anthology, titled A Harvest of Death, also by O'Sullivan, is among the most well known photographs capturing the American Civil War. See the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, object no. 2005.100.1201.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
