North Carolina Federal Desk and Bookcase
Statesville, North Carolina area, document drawer inscribed "This desk was finished July 6, 1811 by George…Price 22 and 50 cents", several other inscriptions for Tilley family members including Washie Tilley, "Washie Tilley has got four teeth", Charlie and Noney Tilley, of narrow vertical proportions, the upper case with two arched paneled doors flanked by fluted pilasters, upper doors open to a shelved interior, back of one panel with faint fylfot design, lower case with fallboard opening to a fitted and inlaid interior over four long drawers flanked by reeded quarter columns and set on dovetailed bracket feet, 92-1/2 x 38-3/4 x 21 in. cornice molding, bed molding, base molding and feet are replaced, hinges and brasses replaced, lower case with several patches and repairs at fallboard hinges including strip patch at stationary side, some replacements to backboards of lower case, interior drawers with later knobs and some edge repairs, lacking prospect door, long drawers with strip patches at thumb moldings, other evidence of termite damage with scattered repairs and restorations.
