Note: Jose Manuel Macias was a Cuban revolutionary thinker and diplomat, and wrote the book "Cuba in Revolution: A Statement of Facts”. The couple was exiled due to their beliefs in Cuban independence and traveled to the United States. According to family stories, they entered the country through the port at Baltimore and spent time in New York before they ultimately settled in Washington D.C. While the couple was married in Cuba, it is believed that these are their wedding portraits that were completed upon their arrival in the United States. The silver-plate dishes, box of lace and photographs are personal items of the couple. Mariano Hernandez is the father of Juanna Macias.
