(New Orleans, Louisiana/Pennsylvania 20th/21st century)
Power Down, 2006, with brooch, signed, titled verso box and on brooch, mixed media: bronze, silver, acrylics and Micarta (brooch) and electrical components, neon, paint, plexiglass, light bulbs, wood, plastic, metal and photo print on , 24 x 18 x 5 in.. Notes: "Never take the power supply for granted. It comes at a huge cost, on a lot of levels, to all of us. Where does your power come from?" A poignant note ends the description of [Power Down], all of which was constructed from parts found on the streets of New Orleans and along the beaches of the Gulf Coast after the disasterous aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005. It was the costliest of national disasters in both its devastation and toll in human life. This works is a response to that event. Art here, like with 911, becomes a deep expression of national grief and remembrance. The brooch, by the same title, is described by the artist as "a 'construcy' brooch that depicts the fractured system."
