Rare Pair Virginia/North Carolina Federal Inlaid Walnut Cellarets attributed to Joseph Freeman, Gates County, NC 1800-1820, each with highly figured walnut top opening to an interior with original bottle dividers and set with original lock and hinges, inlaid diamond escutcheons, set on original frame with drink slide over a single dovetailed drawer with original locks and conforming inlaid escutcheons and set on tapered square legs, dovetailed, rosehead and cut nail construction with yellow pine secondary, back of frame of second with later inscription "Wm. Henry 1801", 41 x 25-1/8 x 15-1/2 in. and 41 x 25-1/2 x 17 in.. Condition: both in an excellent state of preservation, the first with 1-1/2 in. patch and repair to facing of drinks slide, one side of frame with two minor patches, brasses replaced, small old abrasions on drawer facing; the other with small patches at top molding near lock, minor crack with infill at lower front of box, very minor crack at top of one rear leg, small patch at one side molding,. Notes: One recorded by MESDA (MESDA research file No. 2548) and is illustrated in John Bivins, Jr. [The Furniture of Coastal NC 1700-1820], p 375, fig. 6.169.
