(British, 1734-1802) Portrait of Mr. Adye's Children (The Willett Children), unsigned, circa 1880 copy, oil on twill canvas, 60 x 48 in.; 19th century gilt wood and composition frame, crackle, stretcher marks, scattered light retouch; frame with losses and some resurfacing. Notes: This painting is possibly the known copy that was commissioned by the Adye family to replace the original which was sold out of the family circa 1880. A copy of this size was recorded as being sold by Adye family descendants at Christie’s in 1905. It later appeared in a Washington, D.C. collection in 1974. The 1789 original is held by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
