Note: "An identical jug is illustrated by Peter Walton, Creamware and other English Pottery at Temple Newsam House Leeds, p. 36 no. 76. The origin and significance of the relief decoration remains entirely unclear. Walton notes, on p. 12, that the jug is one of a group of pieces with related decoration, including a jug at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation molded with the initials 'O.B.' A jug of this form was in the Collection of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Phillips, sold in these rooms, April 24, 1982, lot 94." - Sotheby's.
