probably Thai or Laotian, 19th century, large rectangular form, black lacquered and gilt surfaces with stencil decoration, scenes of people, animals, and mythical figures, sides with relief carved figures, hinged lid opening to two compartment silver painted and black stencil decorated interior, lid interior with center divider and document tray, on carved bird form feet with carved scrollwork and feather embellishments, 10-3/4 x 17 x 7/8 x 11-1/2 in. - Provenance: Private Collection, South Carolina
top and back side with major losses to gilding and decoration, scattered surface scratches and areas of gilt loss throughout, some losses to decoration, scattered paint spots, some cracks, chips, and losses to wood, some warping to wood (does not sit completely level on feet), interior with some stains, one foot with break and loss to bird head
Condition
Purchased items not picked up within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
