20th century, tempera with gold leaf, abalone, paper-mache lacquer technique, gilt floral detail on sides, comprising: heart-shaped hinged with Cinderella story, inscribed Palekh school verso, relief legs, original box, 5-3/4 x 5-1/2 x 2 in.; globe with King Wind story and gilt sun, inscribed "2002" Palekh school on lid, 3-1/4 x 2-3/4 in.; large globe with Firebird story, inscribed Palekh school and artist verso, also silver detail, 4-1/2 x 3-1/2 in.; abalone shell hinged with winter monastery scene, internal monastery scene and pearl at base, guilloching, unknown school (Fedoskino?), 7-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 3 in.; circular with winter hunting scene and harvesting girl with rabbit, inscribed "Mctepa/2001" and artist name verso (Mstyora school), dark blue ground, 5 x 2-1/4 in.; small jewelry trunk with hay-harvesting men and women in red, inscribed Palekh school verso with artist name, 4-1/4 x 2-3/4 x 4 in.

Russian lacquer folk art painting is greatly rooted in the 17th-19th century tradition of icon painting, which lasted until the 1917 Russian Revolution.  After the collapse of Imperial Russia, four centers of lacquer painting thrived in the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality, Ivanovo region of central Russia.

very good, scattered scuffs to bases, minimal lacquer cracking, residue at lid edge, wear at lid contacts
