Coastal Connecticut, late 18th century, top of lower case with chalk signatures and inscription "Elijah Sherman... Barnum", dovetailed and wrought nail construction with poplar and chestnut secondary, original bat wing brasses and escutcheons, ogee bracket feet, 80 x 40 x 21 in.
Provenance: The Stiles/Burpee family of Southbury, Connecticut, Winter Associates Auction, 1992; The Ann and Joel Finn Collectionin fine condition with early dry surface, excellent original condition throughout, with no significant repairs or restorations found, some minor bumps to moldings and drawer lips, lacking some bails for brasses, some escutcheons possibly replaced (three additional bat wing plates accompany lot), minor pest damage at edge of one drawer facing with associated loss
