(Edgefield, South Carolina, b. circa 1800s, d. after 1873) attributed to Lewis Miles Stoneware Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, light olive green runny glaze over ovoid form, thick glaze runs to side and back of jar, thinly glazed contrasting reddish brown areas, three finger tip marks at base edge, dated in script "March 14, 1852", signed in script "Dave", and "LM", ringed neck with tooled spout, applied strap handle with impressed finger mark, 14-1/2 in. tall

Condition

glaze voids and anomalies as may, fluorescence under black light of professional restoration to very top of jar around spout through scripted "LM" including spout, several small clay body losses to front of jar at belly, other minor wear and surface abrasions to jar, 1-1/2 in. firing separation at shoulder, minor chipping and wear to most of base edge, glaze chip under handle, residue on exterior of jar
