1874, designed by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887), of bulbous bottle form, faceted, tapering neck, hand painted gilt decoration, central cartouche reads "Exposition des Beaux-Arts/Falguiere/Membre du Jury, Section de Sculpture./1874." for sculptor Alexandre Falguiere (French, 1831-1900), 20-1/2 in.
Note: The form of this vase is recorded in the Sevres Archives from 1874 as "Vase Bouteille Persanne", the shape was based on a Persian metal prototype. Eighteen similar vases were entered for sale in January 1874 and described as "fond sous couverte et decor en or" at a cost of 95 francs each (MNS Archive, Registre Vr 1iere serie, vol.2, fol.247).
