Sebastian Münster (German, 1489-1552), Tabula novarum insularum, quas diversis respectibut Occidentales & Ionianas uocant, from Cosmographiae, Basel, 1550, with text verso, wood cut on laid paper in two sheets, image 10 x 13-1/4 in. sheet 11-7/8 x 15-1/2 in.; modern frame 19-1/2 x 22-1/2 in. Note: This is the 5th state of the map (out of 13 states) from the 1550 Latin edition of Cosmographia. This state has "Die Nüw/ Welt" moved lower down, and replaced by "Nouus orbis," with the phrase "Insula Atlantica quam uo- / cant Brasilii & Americam" in South America, "Temistitan" is named in Mexico, "Sciona" is at the foot of the flag, and latitude and longitude bars are not present.
