Note: This lot is accompanied by an extensive letter from Dr. Ila Weiss. It discusses the possibility of this being a related sketch to Gifford's The Wilderness of 1860, but acknowledges the problematic restoration and consequent obfuscation of much of the sketch. The letter is attached herein.
