mid 19th century, volute-krater form in polished black stone, with a gilt rim under a wide stone base plate, gilt, lotus meander stem, with finely gilt champleve enamel floral decoration below shoulder, gilt mouth with two figured swan head handles, unmarked, 20 x 10-1/2 in.; accompanying lot is the museum exhibition card 

Provenance: From the Collection of Daniel Bibb, Atlanta, Georgia Note: possibly made for the private apartments of the Grand Duke Mikhail Nicholaevich (1832-1909) at the great neoclassical palace of Pavlovsk outside St. Petersburg; previously on loan to the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Biedenhard Museum, Monroe, LA.

Condition

overall good condition, some abrasions in stone, light gilt loss, enamel loss with some restoration, only 5 in. open space, interior, from mouth
