An ornamental vase with acanthus leaf and tongue decoration, possibly given a smooth stucco finish, limestone, 25-1/2 in., traces of original stucco surface, scattered chips and other minor losses, but otherwise good condition. Notes: In his summary, Dr. Kilinski states, "..a number of elegantly carved vases were decorated with graceful floral designs, such as those depicted on this vase, and were meant to be placed in garden setting to enhance the lush atmosphere of spacious Roman villas. These ornamental vases belong to the decorative arts of Roman antiquity and are not to be confused with Roman cinerary urns.."..
