According to Dr. Meijer the painting previously had a Pieter Claesz monogram and date 1643. While the devices used are those often used by Claesz and while the artists often collaborated, he believes the work to be entirely that of Koets.This lot was also authenticated by Dr. Sam Segal, in 1985 and by˜Ingvar Bergstr?m in 1984, both˜after viewing it in person. A photo certificate from Segal accompanies the lot.
