Boys Playing Hoops and Marbles, 1870, signed lower right "Ogilby 70", canvas stamped verso "Goupil, (Snow & Roos), oil on canvas, 26 x 31 in.; very fine period carved gilt wood and composition frame, 34 x 39 in.

Note: Born in England, Robert Ogilby came to California as a topographer in 1852. Several of his works were used by lithographers of San Francisco and depict various areas of California as the state was being settled. He taught drawing and painting at Durant University and continued there after it became the University of California in 1868. His rare painted works include views of Mount Shasta. Lake Tahoe, Pescadero and the Missions. He exhibited at the Mechanics Institute in San Francisco in 1869 and belonged to the Society of California Pioneers, established in 1850 and dedicated to the study and enjoyment of California art.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
