Note: Between 1974 and 1987, Robert Milnes explored symmetry and asymmetry in large-scale steel and copper armature sculptures, drawing on minimalism and constructivism. His works from this period, created in Seattle, Washington and Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Beyond his artistic practice, Milnes has more recently served on boards for the Center for Craft, Blue Ridge Public Radio, and the Southern Highland Craft Guild. With his wife Karen, he supports scholarships at the University of North Texas and Penland School of Crafts, as well as programs at the Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center and other Asheville organizations.
