(Pennsylvania, 1730-1788) Captain Harry Burrard, later the 1st Baronet Burrard (1755-1813), in the uniform of the 4th Battlion, 60th (Royal American) Regiment of Foot, circa 1783, unsigned, oil on canvas, 29-3/4 x 25 in.; fine modern carved and gilt wood frame crackle, lined with linen and restretched on new stretcher, scattered limited retouch; frame with minot abrasions. Notes: Captain Burrard served under General Howe from 1778 to 1779 while Howe made Philadelphia his headquarters. This portrait was possibly painted by Pine during that time in Philadelphia. Later Captain Burrard served under Lord Cornwallis in 1780-1781 which included the South Carolina campaign. He was present at the Siege of Charleston, the Battle of Camden and Cornwallis’ eventual surrender at Yorktown. This the only know portrait of Lieutenant General Sir Harry Burrard, Bart, MP.
