Devil Jug
(Cartersville, Georgia, 1910-1993), metallic brown glaze with dark black highlights and runs, applied facial features including white clay eyes with black pupils, protruding nose and goatee, angled ears and curved horns, mouth and upturned mustache, applied arms resting at sides in handle form, pointed tail from rear base running up over shoulder, impressed nipples and belly button, flared rim, 10-1/4 in.. Condition: glaze voids and anomalies as made, areas of glaze crawl to lower half of jug, firing separations to tail, mouth, and mustache as made, glaze anomaly and chip at mouth. Notes: Another example of this form in the same collection had a makers stamp on base.. Provenance: Sewell Collection, Georgia
