Inlaid Walnut Desk and Bookcase attributed to Columbia, South Carolina, circa 1800, with inlaid broken-arch pediment with urn finials, two line-inlaid doors with highly figured walnut panels, adjustable shelved interior, lower case with fitted interior, very highly figured walnut fallboard and graduated drawers, yellow pine secondary, original bracket feet, 91 x 42 x 21-1/2 in.. Condition: excellent condition overall, original feet and blocking, brasses replaced, finials likely replaced, minor repairs to scrolled pediment, some warping to fallboard and upper doors, minor surface fading, scattered abrasions and very minor repairs. Notes: One other example from this shop also attributed to Columbia is illustrated in Rauschenberg and Bivins, Jr., [The Furniture of Charleston 1680-1820], volume II, page 596. Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
