Chair
attributed to Northern Virginia or Maryland, circa 1780, crest with spiral carved ends over a pierced splat, upholstered slip seat in yellow silk damask, cabriole legs with ball and claw feet, through tenon construction, fine early surface, 37-1/2 x 23 x 21-1/2 in. excellent condition overall, slip seat replaced, crack, minor separation and repair at left front knee, right side rail with abrasion and surface loss, other scattered minor dents, cracks and wear consistent with age and use. Notes: underside of slip seat inscribed "found in Hagerstown, Maryland chair from Alexandria, Virginia or Georgetown, Maryland (now DC)". Provenance: A Maryland Private Collection
